A gradual metamorphosis in the harmony shapes the character of this piece: the developmental history of a single chord.
The steady, very slow quarter-note chords gradually change their color, usually through the alteration of one pitch from chord to chord, but at times through changes of several pitches. Above this unfolds an idiosyncratic melodic line that nevertheless at moments appears familiar.
