Im Bann

While composing this piece, I at times came close to despair, as this kind of music, in my perception, allows only a single path—one that I had to discover. The music thus stood under the spell of its own means, and I myself was likewise caught in its spell.

The path sought is characterized by surprising turns, abrupt cuts, and occasionally fa­mil­i­ar-­sound­ing elements that continually lead the music in new directions, yet must never be ar­bit­rary.
