Pareidolia

Pareidolia for saxophone quartet was funded by the GEMA scholarship 2021/2022 and premiered in November 2023 by the Quatuor de Saxophones de Luxembourg at the Conservatory of the City of Lux­em­bour­g.

“­Par­eido­li­a” refers to the phenomenon of recognizing supposed faces, figures, or shapes in objects and patterns. Similarly, seemingly familiar shapes, harmonic sequences, or melodies can be discovered in this composition. The piece thrives on the fact that these seemingly familiar elements are interrupted by sudden cuts or twists and turns, leading in a new direction. The materials used for this purpose are further developments of what has gone before. In this way, the whole piece is connected by an audible thread.
